On today's episode of Educhatwithbella, we will be looking at differentiating words.
I'm sure we have been learning the right pronunciation of those words from our blog this past week.
Now let's move to differentiating words.
I will always say that words are tricky and they are not always pronounced the way they are spelt ( judging from our previous post).
Today we will be looking at homophones and homonyms.
Homophones are words that have the same pronunciation but different spelling and meaning.
Homonyms are words that have same spelling, same pronunciation but different meaning .
Most times the word we feel are homophones are actually wrong , let's take a look at some words
Homophones. Words
1. Sit. Seat(wrong).
2.hit. Heat( wrong)
3.ship. Sheep(wrong).
4. Bit. Beat (wrong)
5. Cup. Cap( right)
6. Son. Sun(right)
7. Meet. Meat( right)
8.slip. Sleep(wrong).
Now most of the words we just found out are wrong actually don't have the same pronunciation and therefore can't be use as words and homophones.
Let's take a look at homonyms.
Homonyms. Words
Bank. Bank
Saw. Saw
Tie. Tie
These words have same spelling, same pronunciation but different meaning.
